Educating people on HIV and Aids

The Aids-awareness presentation at the female employees of Standard Chartered and Oryx GTL at Standard Chartered Bank in conjunction with the Qatari Ladies Forum of Oryx GTL, held a presentation on Living with HIV for female employees of ORXY GTL recently. The participants also took part in a quiz to test their knowledge on facts and myths surrounding HIV and Aids.

Standard Chartered has pledged to educate 1mn people on HIV and Aids by 2010 through the Clinton Global Initiative.

The bank offers the education tools and the expertise of HIV Champions free-of-charge to partner companies who wish to implement HIV education programmes within their own organisations. I am proud to be a part of this team and am passionate about increasing awareness of this condition.  In the past 25 years, over 30mn people have died from Aids-related illnesses. Standard Chartered Bank has more than 850 HIV Champions across the banks network, Corporate Affairs head Haya Mashhood said. Standard Chartered Bank CEO Tom Aaker said: It is absolutely critical for us as a company to help educate people on HIV and Aids for the sake of the communities where we do business. We invite other companies to get in touch with us and utilise our HIV Champions to help build education programmes for their staff.
