ORYX GTL Obtains ISO14064-3:2006 Verification Certificate for 2010 GHG Inventory

As a worldwide awareness for climate change and global warming increases, many countries adopted greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction strategies and control measures. In recent years, the State of Qatar in liaison with QP started to follow the international framework for measurable, reportable and verifiable GHG emissions in an obligatory position with respect to controlling GHG emissions from its oil and gas operations, in support of Qatar’s 2030 National Vision.
Since 2010, ORYX GTL initiated implementing GHG accounting and reporting to regulatory authorities according to European guidelines and best international and industry practices. The objective of the GHG accounting and reporting program was to achieve monitoring and accounting of GHG emissions from ORYX GTL operations that is auditable and verifiable, as accurate as reasonably possible, and that will allow the company to report the verifiable GHG inventory to the required regulatory agencies, and may also form a sound basis for a future implementation of GHG emission reduction programs.
The detailed GHG emission calculation methodology is developed based upon European and IPCC guidelines, which assisted ORYX GTL to:

  • establish a GHG accounting and reporting system to institute baseline emissions
  • ensure consistent implementation of GHG reporting according to regulatory requirements
  • establish verification mechanisms to raise the quality of GHG data

Recently QP appointed an auditor from SGS that verified ORYX GTL’s GHG emissions inventory for calendar year 2010 and certified that ORYX GTL is in accordance with the ISO14064-3:2006 requirements. The certification is proof that ORYX GTL is committed to protect the environment and become a sustainable green company in Qatar.
